Black Glamour Models And An All Black Vogue Edition
Friday, June 27, 2008 at 01:27PM For the first time in history Italian Vogue is going to feature in its July edition all Black Models!
This is significant as racial prejudice in the fashion industry is an issue, below extract from the New York times site.
Well, it will be interesting to see whether the myth that "Black doesn't sell" will finally be dispelled. Imagine if this edition of Italian Vogue becomes their highest selling! If that is the case, I am sure we will get more black models on the cover of major magazines. Sola Oyebade, of Mahogany Models, spearheads a campaign in the UK to get more black and ethinic models into all forms of modelling - BLACK BUT INVISIBLE. This has been gaining some momentum. Below a video clip of this issue being discussed on More4 news, a major UK TV channel.
(The model in the video, Janelle might look familiar to repeat visitors to the site :) )
Can we see at the end of the year -
The first Black U.S. President and the highest selling edition in Vogue's history was one that featured all black models...mmm "Yes WE CAN" So go out and buy this July's Edition of Italian Vogue out on Thursday and available in stores like Borders...I am sure it will be a collectors item.

Where can I get a copy of Italian Vogue?
You can contact Selfridges on 0800 123 400 OR WH Smith based in Selfridges
0207 318 679 to order your copy over the phone, if you are based in the UK.But not sure how many they will have in stock. They might not be prepared for a huge demand.
COMAG has a specialist department which supplies retails outlets with the
international Vogue editions in the UK
This is how it works. COMAG typically buy in around 400 copies of the Vogue Italia version to sell in the UK. But this can only be done once Italy services their outlets and newsstands internally. The surplus copies are then re-barcoded and sent out internationally, hence the 2-3 week delay in getting it in the UK. If the demand for the issue goes into overdrive (as we know it will) one of two things will happen: Either Conde Nast will reprint the issue or finding an existing copy will be like gold-dust!!
